Car wash to help offset costs of camp for Scouts

Dirty cars, trucks and SUVs are welcome at the Eagle Wash & Lube on June 7 for a car wash to support a local Boy Scouts of America crew.

Venturing Crew 761 will be getting dirty and washing cars to raise money to offset the cost of summer camp for its 14- to 18-year-old scouts.

"This particular crew is for older kids and some of them can't always afford to pay their share of the camp," said Chris Heidrick, the owner of Eagle Wash & Lube in south Fort Myers.

He is donating the use of his car wash and plans to donate $5 to the crew for every Castrol Full Service Oil Change performed in its maintenance center during the event.

"It helps them raise money but also builds teamwork and reinforces a lot of the ideals that scouting represents," said Heidrick, who was involved with the scouts as a child and contacted the crew with the opportunity to wash cars. "These youths are helping others and in doing so, they are earning their way to participate in other scouting programs."

Giving the kids the ability to wash the cars at the center is also environmentally friendly.

"By doing it at a commercial establishment like mine, they are helping to use less water and waste less as opposed to doing it at a grocery store or bank," Heidrick said.

Forest E. Getter, the Venturing Crew 761 organizer, was unavailable for comment as of press time.
