Car wash in business of helping teams

Raising money and helping the environment are just a couple of objectives for Eagle Wash & Lube Owner Chris Heidrick.

Heidrick recently invited the Cypress Lake High cross country team to participate in a car wash that garnered the team $400 for travel and entry fee expenses.

"The company is very supportive of the area teams and it's even more important now than ever to raise money," said Rob Strong, the coach of the cross country team.

This is the second car wash the team participates in. The team, which in February was doing track, raised nearly $500 during a car wash.

"We have been pretty successful in getting these scheduled and helping the groups raise money," said Heidrick who began to offer fundraising car wash opportunities in February.

Groups participating in car wash fundraisers have raised a combined total of almost $4,000 so far.

"They have been averaging about $400 every time we do these ... we are trying to do them every other week," Heidrick said. "The community really supports the kids who come out and wash cars."

Hosting the car wash at his facility is also environmentally friendly as extra resources aren't used.

"By doing it at at a commercial establishment like mine they are helping protect the environment by using less water and less waste as opposed to another location," he said.

Strong is hoping that the money raised will be enough to pay for travel expenses that are becoming increasingly high because of gas prices.

"To anyone who came out, thank you for supporting us ... this will go a long way for the team," Strong said.

The cross country team consists of about 30 combined boys and girls.
